SPECIAL ALERT - HEAT CONTINGENCY COURSE
Due to the unexpected and unseasonal weather conditions predicted for race weekend, we are making a course change to the Coastal High 50 that will get you back to CP 1 earlier and allow us to support you more often. The change is in the interest of athlete safety and made with the consultation and support of QPWS and event medics.
You will still complete the iconic Shipstern’s Circuit and indeed, will still have to complete the first 18km unsupported, but we will remove the opening Dave’s Creek section. Upon return to Binna Burra, you head back into the course as you had done earlier this morning, but this time completing a clockwise 4.5km loop of the Tullawall Circuit, passing back through CP1 and then continuing onto Caves Circuit and the original course to the finish.
The Capra app has been updated with the contingency course. I apologise for this necessary change, you will still get the stunning experience of the Gold Coast hinterland, just in a slightly amended version with more aid station support!
The CH50 Course
it's good. real good.
The Wild Earth Coastal High 50 is an epic event located in the iconic and spectacularly picturesque Gold Coast Hinterland. Running on trails contained within the pristine Lamington and Springbrook National Parks, the Wild Earth Coastal High 50 includes the best trails that South-East Queensland has to offer.
The Wild Earth Coastal High 50 sees runners traverse spectacular trails through sub-tropical rainforest, open forest, and along cliff tops within Lamington National Park, before descending down into the Numinbah Valley and then climbing up (then down, then up!) to finish adjacent to the magnificent Purlingbrook Falls in Springbrook National Park.
The course has changed over the years but the 2023 course remains the same as 2021-22; after completing the Daves Ck/Shipsterns Circuit, runners will arrive at Checkpoint 1 back at Binna Burra, before running on Caves Circuit to then return to the Hinterland Great Walk and descending into Numinbah Valley. As always, we work with National Parks and the conditions, and will keep you aware of any changes!
The map is now available on the Capra app - which even works offline; perfect given the poor reception in sections of the course! You can also download the GPX direct to your watch! A map; electronic or hard copy,, is an item of mandatory gear, with Capra its easy!

ThE ‘CRUNCH’ Course
A BITE SIZE CHALLENGE
The Wild Earth Coastal High Crunch has become a fan favourite for those looking to step up in distance at the iconic Wild Earth Coastal High; aimed at those making the mover from short course racing into the ultra scene - it’s also a great fallback if training hasn’t gone to plan!
The Crunch packs a punch, it has most of the challenging elements of the Coastal High 50; including an uphill start, the long descent to Numinbah, the iconic stairs to Apple Tree Park, the dive down to Little Nerang Creek and then the long ascent past Purlingbrook Falls to the race finish at Springbrook. But that’s not to say it isn’t spectacular; with a mix of terrain from the road start, the technical single track along the awe-inspiring Caves Circuit, the quad crunching descent through the gums to Numinbah Valley, the rainforest patches as you climb to Springbrook - this will not be the ‘easy’ option!
The course remains the same as 2021-22! The distance for your journey is 27.5km. The Wild Earth Coastal High experience is special; regardless of the distance.
As with the 50; having a map; either hard copy or on your phone, is required as part of your mandatory gear. Download the Capra app for more details and the GPX files to download a course to your smart watch!
